The FAMAE SAF is a Chilean firearm designed and manufactured by FAMAE (Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército), a state-owned defense company. It is a compact and versatile firearm known for its reliability and adaptability. The SAF is often used by various military and law enforcement agencies and is chambered for 9x19mm Parabellum ammunition. Its design makes it suitable for close-quarters combat situations and looking really, really cool at the range!
The FAMAE SAF is blowback-operated; firing from a closed bolt. The design is a shortened version of the SIG 540 rifle, but the rifle's rotating bolt has been replaced with a simple blowback bolt. The SAF has a bolt hold-open catch that engages after the final shot. The upper and lower receiver, as well as the trigger guard are steel, pistol grip and handguards are all made from polymer.
