From the Instructors Desk: What You Need To Know About Upcoming Changes To ATT’s
Due to the secrecy around most changes to the Canadian Firearms Program,
you may not have heard about the recent changes to your Authorization
to Transport for your Restricted and Prohibited Firearms. Most of us are
used to the OLD six basic conditions attached to any ATT, they are as
follows:
- Your selected place of storage.
- Any gun range within the Province
- Business for repair or appraisal within the Province
- Gun show within the Province
- Port of entry or exit within the Province
- Peace officer, firearms officer or CFO for verification, registration or disposal within the Province
As of July 7th, 2021, the conditions on most ATTs has been
reduced to the two outlined below. I say most, as special folks, such as
instructors, have non-standard conditions on our ATTS.
- Your selected place of storage.
- Any gun range within the Province
Don’t let this deter you from obtaining restricted firearms. If you ever
need to transport your firearm elsewhere, short term ATTs are just a
phone call away. (1-800-731-4000). Reminder, if the English line is
busy, request the French line, most CFP employees will be bi-lingual!
